Aurelie Rivard Wins S10 400 Free for Third Time at Paralympics Day 8 Finals
Rivard Earns Third Gold Medal in Tokyo
Canadian swimmer Aurelie Rivard has won her third gold medal of the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, taking the S10 400-meter freestyle final on Tuesday.
Rivard finished in a time of 4:34.24, more than two seconds ahead of silver medalist Bianka Pap of Hungary (4:36.65). China's Zhang Meng rounded out the podium with a bronze medal in 4:38.09.
Rivard Extends Winning Streak in Event
Rivard's victory in the S10 400-meter freestyle marks her third consecutive Paralympic gold medal in the event. She also won the title in 2012 and 2016.
With her win, Rivard ties fellow Canadian swimmer Benoit Huot for the most Paralympic gold medals by a Canadian athlete (20).
Rivard's Dominance in Tokyo
Rivard's gold medal in the S10 400-meter freestyle is her third of the Tokyo Paralympics. She previously won gold in the S10 100-meter butterfly and S10 50-meter freestyle.
Rivard will have a chance to add to her medal count when she competes in the S10 200-meter individual medley on Thursday.
