Pope Francis Recognizes Miracle Attributed to Blessed Carlo Acutis

Italian teenager on his way to becoming first millennial saint

Miracle attributed to Acutis paves the way for canonization

Rome Newsroom, May 23, 2024 (06:22 AM) - Pope Francis has formally recognized a miracle attributed to the intercession of Blessed Carlo Acutis, paving the way for him to become the first millennial saint.

Acutis, who was born in London on May 3, 1991, and died in Monza, Italy, on October 12, 2006, was known for his deep faith and love of the Eucharist. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 2006 and offered his suffering for the sick and dying.

The miracle attributed to Acutis involves the healing of a child with a rare pancreatic disease. The child was prayed for by Acutis' family and friends, and his condition reportedly improved significantly shortly after.

The recognition of the miracle by Pope Francis is the final step in the canonization process, which is expected to be completed later this year. Acutis will be the first millennial to be declared a saint by the Catholic Church.

Acutis' story is a reminder that holiness is not reserved for the distant past or for those who have performed extraordinary acts. It is a call to all of us to live our lives with faith, love, and hope, and to trust in God's providence. As we celebrate the recognition of this miracle, let us pray for the intercession of Blessed Carlo Acutis, and may his example inspire us to live our lives in the service of God and others.
