Internet Outage Germany

Major Internet Outages Hit Germany, Affecting Millions

Thousands of Websites Go Dark in Nationwide Disruption

Frankfurt am Main, Germany - June 15, 2022 - A widespread internet outage has disrupted services across Germany, leaving millions of people without access to their favorite websites and online platforms.

According to Pingdom, a website monitoring service, the outages began at around 12:00 PM CET on Tuesday morning and affected a significant portion of the country. Major websites such as Google, Amazon, and Facebook were among those that were temporarily inaccessible.

Allansbach Struggles with Persistent Broadband Issues

In addition to the nationwide outages, the small village of Allansbach am Bodensee in Baden-Württemberg has been facing ongoing issues with broadband internet access for years. Despite being located just two hours west of Berlin, the village has remained isolated from the digital world due to a lack of infrastructure.

According to a survey conducted in May 2022, 38% of German consumers reported experiencing noticeable delays in their internet usage. This issue is particularly acute in rural areas, where access to reliable broadband is often limited.

Fastly Network Disruption Causes Widespread Outages

The nationwide internet outages in Germany are believed to have been caused by a disruption in the Fastly content delivery network (CDN). Fastly is a major provider of CDN services, which help to deliver content from websites and other online platforms to users more quickly and efficiently.

Fastly has confirmed that the issue has been resolved, and services are now gradually being restored. However, it is unclear whether there will be any lasting impact on the availability of internet services in Germany.
