Formula 1 Announces Sprint Race Venues for 2024
Six Circuits to Host Formula One Sprint Events
Familiar Tracks Return with New Additions
Formula 1 has revealed the six circuits that will stage Sprint races during the 2024 season. The Sprint format, which debuted in 2021, consists of a shorter Saturday race that determines the starting grid for Sunday's Grand Prix.
Four familiar venues will return as Sprint race hosts: Austria, Brazil, the United States, and Azerbaijan. The 2023 season saw Sprint races at these circuits, except for Azerbaijan, which is a new addition to the 2024 calendar.
In addition to these returning tracks, Formula 1 has announced two new Sprint race venues: Belgium and Qatar. The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps will host a Sprint race for the first time, while the Losail International Circuit in Qatar returns to the calendar after a one-year absence.
The 2024 Formula 1 Sprint race schedule is as follows:
- Austrian Grand Prix (July 5-7)
- Belgian Grand Prix (July 26-28)
- Brazilian Grand Prix (October 25-27)
- United States Grand Prix (October 18-20)
- Azerbaijan Grand Prix (November 1-3)
- Qatar Grand Prix (November 22-24)
The Sprint race format has been met with mixed reactions from fans and drivers. Some argue that it adds excitement and unpredictability to the weekend, while others believe it devalues the traditional Sunday Grand Prix.
Despite the differing opinions, Formula 1 has indicated that the Sprint race format will continue in 2024 as part of the sport's efforts to engage with its global audience.
